I caught up with Chrystal for an exclusive interview where she revelas her secrets to achieving great looking skin at all ages.
Sarah Sian (Debenhams Beauty Editor): Can you describe the perfect skincare routine for women in their 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s +?
Chrystal Embury (National Training Manager, philosophy): It very much depends on a woman’s concerns, her skin condition and what she would like to improve about her skin. But, for all ages I would always recommend a good cleansing, exfoliating and moisturising routine as the first step to great looking skin and a good eye cream at any of the above ages. As we get older cell renewal slows down, so adding a retinoid will help to increase cell turn over as we start to age.
SS: What products do you recommend for tackling the following skincare problems?
- Loss of firmness
- Dark circles
- Fine lines & wrinkles
- Dark spots and discolouration
EM: For loss of firmness I recommend using philosophy’s full of promise cream and the a.m./p.m. serum. The a.m./pm serum helps to improve skin’s firmness & elasticity leaving the skin feeling tightened and lifted whilst promoting cell renewal which in turn restores volume for improved full of promise dual action restoring cream day and night over the serum to boost collagen levels so the skin looks visibly lifted and more youthful.
For under eye circles, the eye hope range is a great multi-tasking eye cream that targets dark circles, puffiness and fine lines.
For fine lines & wrinkles micro delivery peel is a must for fine lines and wrinkles followed by hope in a jar which is high in anti-oxidants and a great preventative against environmental attack. This moisturiser also helps to refine the skin and improve the appearance of fine lines. Our miracle worker range is ideal for ladies wanting to improve the overall signs of ageing such as deep lines and wrinkles.
For dark spots and discolourations, here are a few products that will help with this, our triple acid peel is great for brightening and working on discolouration and dark spots. Use this once a week in the evening followed by dark spot correctormorning and night under moisturiser. For more mature skin use miracle worker pads under dark spot corrector to multiply the results and work on lines and wrinkles at the same time.
SS: At what age do you recommend using an eye cream?
EM: As early as possible, when you start with a skin care routine use an eye cream and don’t take a regular moisturiser around the eye area , always start with a preventative . The eye area is so delicate we need a cream designed specifically for that area.
SS: What are the main factors that cause skin to age?
EM: Lifestyle , the environment, sun, pollution, smoking, stress, alcohol.
SS: What are your ultimate must-have products and why?
EM: purity made simple cleanser, my skin has a tendency to dryness so the oil is amazing for me, it’s so gentle yet effective cleansing the skin and removing all traces of make up, even mascara.
micro delivery peel is a must for me, it definitely improves product performance as my moisturisers and serums penetrate better, as this peel delivers skin loving ingredients such as vitamin c the skin looks more radiant, as well as smoothing and resurfacing rough texture, lines and wrinkles also look less noticeable.
At the moment I love full of promise serum & moisturiser, the textures are so lovely and my skin feels lifted and firmed
Miracle worker anti-aging eye repair is also fantastic as I’m totally concerned with lines and wrinkles around the eye area, it’s such a light texture so easy to apply it gives immediate smoothing results so lines and wrinkles are less noticeable but also the long term benefits of our high performance retinoid works to stimulate cell renewal as it calms and sooths the delicate eye area.
SS: What are your best-kept skincare tips?
EM: Use a peel once a week. Invest in a good cleanser, moisturiser & eye cream to suit your skin concerns. Always treat your neck and décolleté as part of your face. Use high protection whilst in the sun. Have a skin check at least twice a year , you may need to change your routine through the year as skin conditions can change due to seasons , illness, hormones, stress etc.
SS: What tips do you have for people with sensitive skin?
EM: Treat the skin very gently, usually the lipid barrier is broken down and needs to be re built. Try keep the peace serum & moisturiser both have ingredients to soothe, calm and take down redness. For a once a week treat use keep the peace mask.
