Guest Editor Kate Shapland on…serums
I’ve always been a bit wary of serums. They are usually touted as being more potent than regular beauty topicals for no apparent reason other than that they feel different to face cream.
However, I’ve realised that their very texture actually makes serums useful if you are prone to dry, devitalised skin (especially at this time of year) but find that loading on extra rich face cream just makes you spotty.
When skin needs extra thirst-quenching, try dotting serum onto dry zones (cheeks usually) at night, allowing it absorb (the good ones penetrate quickly), then applying your moisturiser on top. You won’t feel like an oil slick and you will find your skin drinks the extra nourishment up and looks more vital in the morning.
