The Year of the Fashion Tan

London Fashion Week is upon us and ‘fashion-forward’ beauty brand St Tropez linked up with some of London’s fashion elite including two designers Roksanda Ilinic and House of Holland that have also designed exclusively for Designers at Debenhams.

Sharing insider tips and advice, St Tropez will show you how to get a catwalk-inspired look as seen at Roksanda Ilinic and House of Holland.

ROKSANDA ILINIC- Trend Alert: The Retro Blue Tan
Inspired by the bold silhouettes of 1960s Balenciaga and paired with an intricate modern take on Asian embroidery, Roksanda’s collection opted for bold colour and architectural structure. Fast-forwarding thirty years to the 1990s, the clash of landmark decades created new trends in beauty including the introduction of the Retro Blue Tan.

The inspiration
Nirvana, Kurt & Courtney Love, Pearl Jam.

Insiders’ Guide – To Get the Look
To create the Retro Blue Tan, Nichola Joss, St Tropez Skin finishing Expert followed the steps below:

1) Prep the skin with a base coat of St Tropez Instant Glow Wash OFF spray to achieve an instant layer of colour – an absolute saviour through the Summer months (when you don’t have time to wait for a gradual tan to develop).

2) The skin for the Roksanda show was hyper-real so lightly dust shoulders, arms, decolletage and cheekbones with a cocktail of St Tropez Blue Illuminator and New ST Tropez Silver Rose Illuminator. This builds a subtle cool blue colour to rock the 90s trend.

Make up artist, Lucia Pica used the Naturals Radiance Self-Tan for Face as a base for the skin, which recreated the look of grungy 90s supermodels, but in line with Roksanda’s unique style came a healthy soft flush. The make up otherwise was a simple basic aesthetic with a focus on the brows.

House of Holland- Trend Alert: The Pastel Punk Tan
Taking inspiration from the iconic Diane Lane’s fabulous Stains performance, the punk rock edge, will for the first time, be contrasted with a delicate sugary pastel palette to create the new skin trend Henry aptly named, Pastel Punk.

The Sex Pistols.

“With the strong python accents, metal clasps and hard edge attitude, it was important to give the skin a super polished and healthy glow to soften the look. I did my research and worked very closely with St.Tropez and this is what we came up with.” Henry Holland.

Insider’s Guide to Get the Look
To get the catwalk look, download The Sex Pistol’s ‘Anarchy in the UK’ and follow the steps below as created by St. Tropez Skin Finishing Expert, Nichola Joss:

1) Highlight the tops of the brows and around the eyes with st. Tropez Rose Illuminator to create a softer edge – a cool contrast with black eyeliner.

2) Even out skin tones with St. Tropez Instant Wash Off Lotion – a God-send when wearing lighter coloured clothes.

3) Finish by drenching the skin with St.Tropez Rose Illuminator for a dewy sheen.

“I created this romantic and delicate tan to complement the pale pastel colours in the collection, plus contrast the tougher punk elements.” Nichola Joss , St. Tropez Skin Finishing Expert.

For make up artist Lucia Pica, it was her job to bring the sharper punk edge to the face for maximum impact. Lucia used strong lashings of thick black eyeliner to contrast the Summer vibe. That’s how to be a delicate English rose with a special twist…Cool Britannia.

Two minutes with Henry Holland…
This was your tenth show. was it your best yet?
Yes & yes. I’m always proud of what we achieve, but I think we have really found our stride over the paste few seasons.

How do you feel just before the models hit the catwalk?
Nervous. Excited. Jittery. Can’t stop moving. Nauseous.

What’s your biggest extravagance?
Shoes. I have just bought a cabinet with 45 glass-fronted drawers to accommodate my particular favourites.
