A Celebration of the Arts

‘A Celebration of the Arts’ took place last night at the Royal Academy of the Arts, with our very own ‘Designers at Debenhams’ Jasper Conran and Henry Holland proudly showcasing their signature styles.
Part of the Jubilee celebrations the Queen herself attended the event, along with the Duke of Edinburgh, and awarded grants to support emerging young artists – grants to which she has personally contributed. The royal couple were joined at the party by 700 guests from the creative world, including Sir Mick Jagger, Dame Judi Dench, Helena Bonham Carter and Sir Paul McCartney.
The world of fashion was represented by more than twenty leading designers including Christopher Kane, Erdem, Bruce Oldfield, Sir Paul Smith and Zhandra Rhodes – not to mention our own Jasper and Henry.
A patron of the Royal Academies of Art, Music, Dance and Dramatic Art (RADA) for 60 years, the Queen presented five special Diamond Jubilee awards providing hardship bursaries to students of the academies.
While clearly the event is an incredibly worthy cause, here at Debenhams we have to admit that the main excitement, for us, has been looking at the photographs from the event today. Each designer was accompanied by a model or “muse” dressed in their creations. Jasper Conran opted to take along Jasmine Guinness (a previous model for J by Jasper Conran at Debenhams), and on Henry’s arm, Agyness Deyn looked stunning in a floor-length House of Holland creation.
During a quick chat with Debenhams’ blog on the morning of the day, Henry was looking forward to the event – meeting the Queen definitely being something to tell the grandchildren, after all. We can’t wait to catch up with him next and find out what HRH had to say about the talented work of our own Designer at Debenhams…
