A Fashion Comeback: The Denim Skirt

Everyone loves a comeback – and in fashion it’s no different, with the trusty denim skirt currently on the style radar as a must-have item.
Our relationship with the denim skirt has always been a bit of an odd one. After all, we love denim on the whole, but the simple knee length, pencil-esque denim skirt has always had something of a ‘mumsy’ quality to it. Not anymore. Just take a look at Poppy Delevingne (sister of Cara, don’t you know?) and it’s easy to see that denim is no longer deigned to belong back in the nineties…
We couldn’t be happier that the denim skirt is back, for sometimes a girl gets bored of her skinnies. Like our trusty pair of jeans, denim can be dressed up or dressed down, styled for work and play.
To celebrate this fashion resurrection we’ve put together two looks, chic vs casual. We know the denim skirt is back in the running to be a staple item in our wardrobes – but which one gets your vote?
Teaming denim with a stylish top and classic jacket combo is the ideal outfit for looking smart/casual. Add a pair of killer heels, a gorgeous tote and eye-catching accessories such as a shiny belt, chunky bangles or a statement necklace. And, just like that, you’ll be fashion fit for the boardroom.

The obligatory denim pencil skirt should, for the casual take, be paired with a simple vest top or t-shirt, preferably with a quirky print or embellishment. For footwear, funk it up with a pair of ankle boots or, if it’s hot, metallic flip flops. Metallics are also a key trend right now, so remember this when selecting the over-sized earring to go with. Add a colourful across-body bag and this look is well and truly in the bag.
