Pearls have proved their worth in the style stakes for a full century and there’s no better time than now to try the trend.
In the twenties it was Coco Chanel who put pearls firmly in the style spotlight and secured their timeless appeal. Then in the fifties and sixties it was all about simple strands of pearls with the likes of Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly championing this accessory.
Later on, eighties fashionistas were copying Madonna’s punk take on pearls teamed with underwear-as-outerwear. We’ll leave this revealing trend to Lady Gaga for now… but we predict you’ll all be doing it come spring time.
So how should we be wearing pearls now?
The answer is, any which way you like. Big is best with chunky faux pearl necklaces, chokers, cuffs, earrings and brooches. Long pearls can be worn tangled or knotted together – you can even pin them with a brooch for an individual look. Pearl detailing can also be found on other accessories like bags and gloves too. The options are endless but I’m looking ladylike in pearls right now.
Do you prefer your pearls prim and proper or with a punk edge?
