Last night’s Oscars have been and gone and the wait for the best and worst red carpet creations is over at last.
Whether you know your Gucci from your Lanvin from the moment the first ruffle cascades from the car, or mostly find yourself admiring the legs of Hollywood’s finest with a general feeling of self-loathing and promises of a diet, if you’re reading this then the chances are you love a good dress!
Well this year they came, they saw and they conquered and the red carpet was awash with award-worthy designs swathed over perfect limbs and set-off by gorgeous hair and immaculate make-up that reminded us of the golden age of Hollywood.
There were no great surprises when it came to our favourites – these ladies know what suits them and what doesn’t (they’ve been reminded year after year by many a fashion critic after all) and experience has definitely paid off…
Simmering oh-so-sexily and working the crowd like no one else was the stunning Angelina Jolie in a timeless black Versace gown complete with thigh-high split – naturally.
Gwyneth Paltrow opted for a demure meets daring and right on trend ivory caped gown by Tom Ford. It flattered in all the right places – not exactly tricky when dressing the delightful Gwyneth but you can’t take anything away from the dress itself. It’s hard to imagine anyone looking less than perfect if Tom Ford has anything to do with it.
Other notable performances came from can’t-put-a-foot-wrong Meryl Streep in an extravagant gold number, Michelle Williams in a striking Louis Vuitton creation that screamed screen siren with a romantic twist and the beautiful Penelope Cruz in a Cinderella-style dress that was most definitely fit for the ball.
We salute these beautiful women for their unique style and confidence and look forward to seeing them again next year. In the mean time get your own red carpet winner and take a look at our extensive collection of Evening and Party Dresses. If you’re after a classic black dress with a daring twist (as championed by the amazing Ange) the Black Organza ‘Goddess’ Maxi Dress from Star by Julien MacDonald is hot, hot, hot!
