Move over mini skirts, the maxi dress is having a moment and this time round anyone can work the look.

Jenny, our blog editor, is a petite 5ft 3 and she’s sweeping the floor with a glamorous gown in the office today. The maxi dress is a multi-tasking garment that can take you from work to the park, from the beach to the bar and even to a summer wedding. Needless to say, we love them!

Knowing that you really can wear your maxi dress anywhere, it’s definitely worth investing in one for the summer… although, why stop at one, I’ve got my eyes on at least three on debenhams.com at the moment.

Top tips:

  • The ideal length should hit your shoe when wearing flats
  • Prints are big news, go for tribal, digital or tie dye for maximum style points
  • Wear with cropped jackets, waistcoats or knitwear – avoid layering with floaty cardigans or long jackets
  • Throw on loads of jewellery and a pair of hot sunglasses for a stylish summer look

    Thanks for your comment Chrissie. We think a jewelled sandal is great, ones that are fastened at the ankle ideally because a flip flop style could catch the hem of your dress under your foot. If you want to add some height then opt for the shoe-of-the-moment, wedges.

    In the July issue of Cosmo there was a style section about maxi dresses (with the two fashion girls, one petite and one curvy) and there was an AMAZING maxi dress advertised as from Debenhams, £65 and it was white, one shouldered with some purple/pink/yellow flower on it? It was quite Grecian looking… I cant find it!! Not on the Debenhams website and the staff instore said they’ve not seen it, could it be a missprint?

    Definitely great for summer. Go with simple sandals for the chic bohemian look. casual, cool and sexy at the same time. Love maxis!
