The 85th Academy Awards took place last night, with the ‘A’ list crowd taking to the red carpet and showing us that, when it comes to award season glamour, in 2013 the Oscar goes to pale, elegant and interesting.
Admittedly, while there was the occasional boldly coloured frock – Jennifer Garner and Jennifer Aniston, for example, in purple and red to respectively – the majority of starlets opted for simple, discreet hues and tones. Winners Anne Hathaway, in Prada, and Jennifer Lawrence, in Dior, both opted for beautiful creamy frocks – the former channelling Audrey Hepburn, the latter a beautiful summer bride.
At Debenhams we have all you need to ‘Get the Oscar Look’ at your next show-stopping occasion. Be it an upcoming prom, bridesmaid duty or a glamorous garden party, our selection of pale gowns will certainly style you more than interesting.
Above, we’ve picked out a few of our favourites from the current collections, with beautiful gowns; (clockwise from left) light green at No. 1 by Jenny Packham, soft pink from Debut, powder blue from No. 1 by Jenny Packham and, again at Debut, a strapless cream satin beauty. As you can see, Debut and No. 1 by Jenny Packham – a range from Designers at Debenhams, both offer stunning occasionwear. In fact, Adele herself wore Jenny Packham to The Oscars this year, looking fabulous as she picked up her gong for ‘Best Song’ for Skyfall.
Over at Coast there is an assortment of stunning dresses, such as the ruffled white and embellished cream varieties above. Not only is pale and interesting clearly a winning look for Jennifer and Anne, but Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried and Amy Adams also jumped on the style bandwagon. They may have gone home empty handed last night, but they were all successful on international ‘Best Dressed’ lists the world over today.
If the soft and simple tones of this year’s Oscar red carpet are indeed for you, then we’ve taken the liberty of putting together a little ‘Oscar Hot List’ for you, to help with your style search.
Above – Lori Lee maxi and Michegan maxi, both from Coast. Taupe strappy sandals from No.1 by Jenny Packham and gold sparkling shoes from Faith. Principles by Ben de Lisi clutch, beaded clutch from No.1 by Jenny Packham. Star by Julien Macdonald necklace and bracelet and earrings from Butterfly by Matthew Williamson.
See anything you like? Star style at a fraction of the price – no one can say that’s not worth an award or two…
