Get ready for the big reveal! Britain’s best beauty editors share their summer prep tips…

Prep Your Skin for Self-Tan

Fiona Embleton, Senior Beauty Editor, Marie Claire: Want a flawless base for self-tan? Then exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate! Start by dry brushing with the Homedics Body Brush then, while under a cool shower, load up a massage glove with Clarins Exfoliating Body Scrub. If body acne is a problem, cleanse with Ole Henriksen Clarifying Body Wash or Origins Clear Improvement Purifying Charcoal Body Wash as the charcoal will draw out impurities from pores and flush them away.

When skin is dry, apply a layer of Jurlique Sunless Tanner all over. Then, using the Make Up For Ever Ellipse Sponge, strategically buff a small amount of self-tan one or two shades darker on to the three vertical lines that you can see on your stomach when you tighten your muscles. Use the sponge’s pointed tip to apply St Tropez Self Tan Dark Lotion and the rounded part to blend. The result is a really natural sculpt that makes your figure look more defined.

A Body That Glows

Charley Williams-Howitt, Beauty Editor, Woman: The hot weather season is here, so that means it’s also time for your bod to come out of hybernation. But if the thought of getting your bits out send you into a panic, relax, we’ve got your bare-all tactics sorted. Alternate between using your usual moisturiser for a gradual tan such as Elemis Total Glow Body Lotion and Murad Youth Builder firming peptide body treatment.

If you’re dying to rock that new lower-cut-than-usual summer dress (get you!), then be sure your neckline is up to the reveal by using Clarins Super Restorative Décolleté and Neck Concentrate Cream. And pop Elizabeth Arden Eight-Hour Hydrating Mist in your tote to keep your skin looking fresh on the go.

Don’t Neglect Your Neck!

Madeleine Spencer, Beauty Editor, InStyle: Of all the beauty problems to have, a dry and crepey neck is relatively easily solved – all you have to do is to extend whatever skincare treats you apply to your face down your neck and on to your décolleté. When you moisturise, massage it down your neck. When you mask, apply it to this delicate area to nix crepiness and redness.

You can also add products to your routine to treat the area. If you can already see the signs of damage, add Clarins Energy Booster to your moisturiser to supercharge and repair. Clinique Moisture Surge Mask will infuse a dry neck and chest with hydration, plumping fine lines. If redness is your issue, a layer of Jurlique Sunless Tanner is just the thing to add a whisper of bronze that’ll take the edge off it.

Summer Legs in Five Minutes

Fiona McKim, Beauty Editor, Woman & Home: You’ve got a big event and a lovely new dress that shows a bit more leg and a lot more arm than you’re strictly comfortable with. Assuming you’re not in that lucky one per cent who slim and bronze at a luxury detox camp in the run-up to such occasions, five minutes every morning for a week can make all the difference.

Minute 1: swipe Elemis Body Detox Skin Brush up legs and arms to de-flake, smooth skin and boost circulation (cellulite hates this). Minutes 2-4: slather yourself in Kiehl’s Crème De Corps, shaking a drop or two of Clarins Radiance Plus Golden Glow Booster into every pump. Minute 5: wash your hands!

Do this every day and you’ll build up a believable bruise- and vein-covering bronze on soft, sheeny skin by the big day. Happy dancing!

Avoid Hot Weather Panic

Lydia Thompson, Beauty Editor, Look: To avoid that last minute panic when the sun pops out, I start body brushing each morning in Spring. Just before I have a shower each morning I bring out my Elemis Skin Brush and brush my legs and arms in upward circular motions, I even do my back as it’s got a handy long stick which is great for those hard to reach areas. I do this to exfoliate my skin and brighten skintone, and also to improve circulation and combat cellulite. After my morning shower I follow up by applying a moisturiser like Trilogy Pure Plant Body Oils, and again massage this in an upward motion to give my skin a bit of a glow. My other summer body beauty buy has to be fake tan. Because let’s be honest, those first steps your legs take out in the sun are always daunting and the more confidence we can blag the better. I use St Tropez’s Instant Tan, a quick spritz of this and I’m out the door.
