Boardwalk Empire hits our TV screens and wardrobes

We thought nothing could beat Mad Men when it came to reviving the retro fashion of decades-gone-by but it appears we may have been wrong. Playing an exciting part in the UK launch of new TV channel Sky Atlantic is the acclaimed series Boardwalk Empire.
The series, already a hit in the USA, is directed by Martin Scorsese and stars Steve Buscemi as Nucky Thompson, a politician who rules the roost in Atlantic City. We join the story in the 20s as prohibition kicks in and the money to be made in liquor turns powerful men into gangsters.

I was lucky enough to be invited to a preview screening of the first two episodes last week in London’s Leicester Square and already I’m hooked. If you think it’s your thing then today is your lucky day, Sky Atlantic launches in the UK (1 February) and Boardwalk Empire takes a primetime spot at 9pm.

The men may take a firm hold of the storylines, but it’s the women who transport us back to an era of glam flapper dresses, cloche hats and beaded decadence. The team behind the 20s fashion wardrobe of the show are certainly paying attention to detail even recreating dresses from early Chanel sketches and getting hold of delicate vintage dresses that are almost 100 years old.
We’ve been inspired, have you?
