Feeling the cold lately? I know I am. If you haven’t already stocked up on winter essentials right now is a great time to do it. We’ve got 25%* off selected coats and boots for men and women in our Winter Event. Hurrah!
But don’t just take our word for it, we’ve been doing a little research on the sales of winter clothing and found some rather interesting trends. Weather girls are having a major effect on the nation’s shopping habits. When BBC weather girl Carol Kirkwood wears a warm coat and scarf while reading out the weather forecast sales of winter clothing soar on the same day. Wearing a hat and gloves increased demand for these items by an average of 51 per cent. And wearing ear muffs created the biggest rise at 82.7 per cent.
We’re calling it the ‘Weather Girl Effect‘ and the trend became clear after we conducted customer research into our shoppers’ buying habits for winter coats, hats, scarves and gloves.
We also found that:
- Winter coat sales begin to rise when external temperatures fall below 16 degrees on three consecutive days
- Sales of scarves increase when temperatures fall below 12 degrees
- Gloves sales leap when the mercury falls to just six degrees.
We have to wonder though, if Carol Kirkwood read the forecast wearing a bikini would we all go out and buy a bikini even if it was snowing?
Is your winter wardrobe stocked and ready for action?
