Debenhams Christmas jobs update
BY MARK, MENSWEAR, HOME & ELECTRICALS EDITOR ON 30 OCT 2012 13:46 DEBENHAMS JOBSCOMMENTS
With the Christmas shopping period fast approaching, here at Debenhams we’re preparing for one of the busiest times of the year.
Every year we take on thousands of extra staff to help us cope with the demands of being one of the high street’s most recognisable names.
And 2012 has been no different.
Debenhams received more than 150,000 applications for 6,500 positions with a focus on flexible shift patterns to ensure additional staff are in store whenever customers require them.
The level of applications for Christmas period jobs at Debenhams in 2012 has been the highest ever number on its records.
The number of people wanting to work in its stores was up 18 per cent on last year. It has taken on a team of temporary staff in its resourcing centre to manage the overwhelming demand.
The retailer has screened the applicants down to 50,000 candidates, and is now telephone interviewing and assessing them.
More than 3,000 candidates have already been selected and have started with Debenhams ahead of the peak shopping time of the year.
Successful candidates will work with the department store from mid-November until the beginning of January 2013, to cover the pre-Christmas spectacular through to the beginning of the January sale.
Roles available are varied and include everything from stock handling and general sales adviser jobs to gift adviser roles which require special training.
