Dressing children for a special occasion

Kids' occasionwear

Wedding season officially kicked off a couple of weeks ago with an exciting national bank holiday. I threw a Royal Wedding street party by the seaside in Cornwall which was a great success. Everyone wore red, white and blue! Even Chloe wore a gorgeous J by Jasper Conran dress in white with navy ribbons and looked so pretty!

We all had so much fun it was a great party. But it gets me thinking about dressing a child for a wedding or special occasion… It isn’t always easy to get it right and can be a little stressful. You’ve usually got your own outfit to worry about too! I’ve left a few tips below.

Buying occasionwear for kids…

  • Don’t buy a special occasion outfit too far in advance or you may find they grow out of it before your big event.
  • Get them changed at the last possible moment. Children have a wonderful way of managing to get everything grubby, which is even more likely to happen if they’re wearing white.
  • Is it an outfit for one occasion only or do you want them to wear it again? If it’s something they need to wear again then go for machine washable fabrics that are easy to wash and dry.
  • Are they comfortable? They could look absolutely adroable, but if they aren’t comfortable then they’ll be fidgeting and tugging at things all day.

I just watched the Debenhams TV kids’ occasionwear video and the little ones all looked so cute. The photos at the top of the post were taken by the team behind the scenes on the video shoot. You can see how much fun the girls had swishing about in their dresses and tiaras.

I hear that one of the boys, Archie, was intent on sitting in the mud and telling jokes, and in between takes they kept everyone entertained with Star Wars and Party Rings. They were so lucky that the sun was shining too, that’s what everyone is hoping for whether it’s your wedding day, a garden party or a video shoot, a lovely sunny day.

Take a look at the video and let me know what you think…
