The bank holiday weekend is finally here! We know what you’re thinking, how is it the end of August already!? Last time we checked, we were planning holidays and crossing our fingers for sunshine, now the schools are going back and someone on Facebook has already shared a Christmas countdown. Make the most of this last big summer weekend and squeeze every last drop of fun out of the next few days with our top ten tips.

1. Be a Tourist in Your Own Town

How many times have you driven straight past the brown tourist attraction roadsigns in your area? If you’re staying local this weekend, take this opportunity to explore the activities right under your nose. Did you know that the UK’s largest lavender fields are right on London’s doorstep, what will you find on yours?

2. Be SPF Savvy

It’s easy to forget sun protection when you are having the best weekend ever. But even cloudy skies don’t stop all of the sun’s harmful rays. Don’t be caught out by a sudden sunny spell, apply in advance and leave looking red to the strawberries in your Pimms! Click here to shop sun protection.

3. Up Your Picnic Game

Is there anything more British than a proper picnic? We think not. Even if you end up having to have it in your living room, snack in style with the gorgeous range of lunch-ware by Black & Blum.

4. Have a Rainy-day Backup

This is the UK, so no matter how optimistic you are about the weather, it’s probably best to have a plan B. We think a drizzly day is a perfect excuse to rediscover the great indoors. Try out that recipe you’ve always been meaning to, build a pillow fort and schedule a movie marathon, or challenge your friends to a board game tournament – loser does the washing up. Click here to shop all games.

5. Throw a Bank Holiday Barbeque

Is there any better excuse for a barbeque than a bank holiday Monday? It’s never too late to start planning. Take advantage of everyone having the day off and throw a family-friendly get together. Avoid heaving pubs and packed parks and make use of your own back garden. Asking everyone to bring a plate or bottle is a great way to keep costs down too.

6. Set the Scene

What’s a party without a little mood lighting? Go overboard with fairy lights and candles to create a truly magical (and totally Pinterest-worthy) atmosphere for your event. We love these solar-powered bottle lights by Kaemingk.

7. Master the Art of Day Drinking

No work on Monday means cocktails all day Sunday! Here are a few we can’t wait to start sipping this weekend.

8. Go Back to School

Bear with us on this one – if you don’t feel like pouring your own this weekend, why not let someone else do the honours and teach you the tricks of the trade at the same time? These days out are so well mixed they promise to keep even the designated driver happy. Our favourites include the Ginsanity Tour, the Gin and Whisky Tour with Tasting at The Cotswolds Distillery and the Vineyard Tour and Tastings Experience.

9. Go on an Adventure

Keep your holiday days stowed in your back pocket and make the most of the long weekend somewhere new. We’re talking girly spa-weekend or stylish city break. Wherever you go, take us with us you!

10. Look Your Bank Holiday Best

Not only are they bang on trend, midi dresses are ideal for any kind of bank holiday shenanigan – and more importantly – any kind of weather. They look just as good with a denim jacket and sandals as they do with wellies and a chunky knit jumper layered over the top. If your Sunday-funday really takes off, you can even dress your midi up with heels, a statement necklace and a bold lip. Click here to shop our faves.
