As a trend, deep reds in decadent bordeaux shades trickled into the style-sphere via rouge-noir dark lipstick and nail varnish, but have recently dominated AW catwalks to become a full-blown sartorial favourite.

From dusty pink, plum and raspberry, to burgundy and mahogany, the whole charming palette of elegant berry tones has become de rigueur for 2014’s colder temperatures. For inspiration, we’ve styled three looks featuring rich tones of forest fruit to help you make a distinctly punchy statement:

BERRY COOL

Striking an oft-thought impossible strike between sophisticated and urban, this look starts with a black canvas of faux-leather trousers and a cool slouchy sweater, setting the stage for this cranberry cocoon coat – a hero piece from Jonathan Saunders/EDITION AW14 collection (coming soon).  A luxe burgundy shopper is the perfect accessory, as are these textured, burgundy slip-on shoes from Dune. Lastly, one can’t go wrong raspberry-tinged round-frame glasses (think Olsen twins circa 2009, arguably their best style era).

PINK FUZZ

How does a girl-about-town work the pinks and berries trend? With a fuzzy pink coat of course. This standout piece from Red Herring’s new collection (coming soon) works just as well for day as styled above with skinny jeans, as it does for night over a cocktail dress. Keep in tone with the berry palette with the perfect burgundy ankle boot from Dune and trapeze colour-block statement bag. Dark lips shades don’t get better than this rich shade from M.A.C.

PB3-500pxA FINE WINE

A standout choice for a party or a special date, Red Herring’s top and shorts set (coming soon) is a playful way to work the dark-red colour trend.  Accent this sparkly ensemble with jewellery in cooler tones, such as this stunning crystal statement necklace from No.1 by Jenny Packham and pretty floral cluster ring. Make optimal impact with these elegant suede court shoes in maroon and a plush mahogany manicure.

Wear these pink and berry tones with autumn’s other favourite shades, navy, dark green and loyal ole’ black. Remember that dark red makeup is the very best accessory with this style – except for maybe an actual glass of Bordeaux.
