Women and shoes. What else is there to say? The special relationship has been hot and heavy since the beginning of sartorial time. But like every good relationship, things are to be kept fresh. So in honour of British fashion brand Faith’s big 5-0, we look at the shoe styles that are currently lighting the fire.
First things first. There’s nothing that makes quite such a powerful footwear statement – and sends our hearts a-flutter – quite like a well-styled, black leather over-the-knee boot. From timeless icons Brigitte Bardot and Jane Birkin to Nicole Scherzinger and Miranda Kerr, gals with killer styles and dynamic personas have embraced the OTK. Wear it with a short A-line skirt and coat, and opt for a flat boot or very short heel – such as Faith’s black and navy version to attain a sense of balance in the look.
But alas, one can’t wear thigh-high leather every day. For less formidable options, you can never go wrong with a classic black ballerina. It’s one of the only flat styles stiletto-loving VB wears, and that’s saying something. Slipper-like pointed toe pumps have also managed to become a fashion mainstay – often adding a bit of dandy to Alexa Chung’s outfits. Lastly – for the past season, we can’t get enough of the sophisticated chunky-heeled court – the epitome of ladylike-tough. Pick up a pair in red in the vein of Diane Kruger or invest in a timeless black pair, like Olivia.
