The phrase ‘wardrobe must-have’ is thrown around a lot in fashion, new trends claim to be the ultimate key pieces and everything seems to be an ‘investment’. But denim is different. Arguably the necessity, you’re unlikely to find a wardrobe without it. Loved for many a generation – we’d even go so far as to say it’s in our genes.

For SS15 there’s even more reason to don your favourite fabric, as the fashion world has embraced it with open arms with a denim garment to fit every mood, day and occasion. Here, we look into the DNA of that all time favourite, classic – in all its shapes and forms.

On the Catwalk

The off-duty fabric has scored catwalk approval as many designers added it to their spring/summer 15 repertoire- some even showed the casual fabric for the very first time. The designers proved the versatility of the trusty material by showcasing a multitude of styles, cuts and finishes – from tailored and shrunken at Burberry to billowing and loose at Stella McCartney.

The best bit? Unlike most high fashion trends, this one can fit seamlessly into your existing wardrobe without changing a thing- you probably already own it anyway. It’s our same favourite fabric, just given high fashion credentials.

The Icons

Fashion loves a retro chic so, for a little style inspiration, we’ve looked back to some of the most iconic denim devotees. We like to think the below have all played a part in shaping denim into the fashion darling it is today.

Marilyn Monroe managed to make the boyfriend fit look feminine and elegant- we think she was jean-ious. Since the ’50s pin up sported the utilitarian style, jeans have been sexed up by Daisy Duke, rocked up by Kate Moss, and turned into dresses, jackets, shirts and even shoes. Whether you have a preference for an office-ready pencil skirt or have a a weakness for double denim, our faithful denim is a fashionable uniform for everyone to wear now and forever.
