Our favourite royal, Kate Middleton, is turning 33 today. We may not have been cordially invited to the princess’ soiree but we’re celebrating in style by tracking Kate’s fashion evolution from the very beginning.

Since Prince William first laid eyes on his future wife whilst she strutted down the catwalk wearing a transparent mesh dress, Kate has transformed into a modern day princess. Read on, as we look back at some of her best outfits and show you how you can replikate (sorry, we couldn’t help ourselves) her fashion and beauty look.

A Princess in the Making

Kate Middleton style

When Kate Middleton began to date Prince William she became our favourite ‘girl next door’. Her mix of high street and designer labels made her style accessible for all and we loved her countryside chic casualwear. However, the young Duchess was catapulted to style stardom when the royal engagement was made. Wearing a blue wrap dress and debuting her sapphire ring, the hue has become one her favourites and one of ours too. The Kate effect, as it was coined by the media, has us running to the shops to find pieces that emulate the royal’s elegant style. Following the engagement, the highly anticipated wedding dress made in delicate lace was understated yet fit for a future queen and made the princess a firm style favourite across the globe. She had us at hello…

The Blossoming Princess

Since the royal wedding Kate has undergone a style revamp- after all being married to the future king does have a few perks. From red carpet appearances to official engagements, she has mastered both evening and off-duty style. The Duchess’ style signatures including court shoesnude tights and royal blue have become key pieces in our wardrobes.

Following the announcement of the royal’s pregnancy in December 2012 she became something of a maternity style icon. She showed future mums how to dress while pregnant by wearing flattering shapes and luxurious accessories. Kate’s effortless style was evident even a few days after giving birth as she made her debut wearing a bespoke cornflower blue dress with her trademark glossy tresses.

The Young Mum

Since the birth of the royal baby Kate has recycled many of her favourite pieces. She wore a nude long sleeved gown on the red carpet for a second time last year- we love a thrifty princess. While we adore Kate’s elegant aesthetic, she has started to experiment with her fashion choices in the last year, and we’ve loved that too. She has worn thigh-high splits, canary yellow and even ran down a Sydney beach wearing her favourite wedges– now that’s dedication. As she announced her second pregnancy late last year, we’re looking forward to seeing more of the graceful mum-to-be’s style choices.
