Why does a kimono look so fabulous? After all, in theory, a Japanese traditional garment worn with distressed jeans, a crop top and Birkenstocks doesn’t sounds like a chic get-up. But chic it is. And it could be its very randomness that makes it so.

Given its distinctive look and exotic origins, a gal wearing a kimono can’t help but look mysterious. Other can’t help wonder where she got it, and be compelled by her spontaneous air and laid-back confidence. Case in point, Jemima Kirke’s fabulously reckless Jessa of Girls, Mary Kate Olsen channelling Axl Rose on the cover of Nylon, Alexa Chung channelling her usual cool in a botanical-looking place, Kendall Jenner at Coachella, and Elizabeth Olsen nailing it in the most wearable way. Not to mention, it’s a great piece to transition into autumn with, as demonstrated above by style icons of all modern style icons, Kate Moss.

Kimonos Style

The kimono is a casual and naturally versatile piece that you can easily incorporate into your personal style, but looks best worn over bikinis (or crop-top and shorts set as Kendall), denim cut-offs, and jeans. Alternatively, a black kimono will look great with black skinny jeans or leather trousers, allowing its pattern to really pop.  Here are some of our favourite kimonos for autumn:

Debenhams Kimonos

1. Red Kimono by Feverfish
2. Oriental Birk Kimono by Warehouse
3. Black Kimono by Feverfish
4. Black and White Printed Kimono by Petals
5. Floral Print Fringed Kimono by Warehouse
6. Orange Kimono by Feverfish

For the especially daring, a kimono will also work with a slip dress and heels, and can be a very fetching date night style – not to mention (if necessary) a great conversation piece.
