We sit down with TV presenter, fashion writer and all round style expert Darren Kennedy to find out his top menswear tips for the coming year.
Whereabouts are you based?
I split my time between my hometown Dublin and London where I work with ITV’s This Morning as well as writing a column for Telegraph Men and a blog for Hello! online.
What clothing would you spend £100 on right now?
It’s got to be a classic trench – super versatile, great for layering and just one of those pieces that exude timeless cool. I’ll be wearing mine dressed up over a three-piece and dressed down with jeans and a Breton stripe tee.

What clothing item could you not live without?
Right now, it’s a padded leather biker jacket that I picked up a couple of months ago. It works really well for laid back casual or as a contrast to a more tailored look.
What’s your top tip for men’s fashion this year?
Don’t over-think it and try something brave for you.
What does men’s fashion “do” really well?
Why tailoring of course. Especially in London where there is such a rich history of quality craftsmanship and tailoring with Savile Row. I love that it’s no longer elitist and it’s now possible to find really good quality, well cut suiting on the high street at affordable price points.

If menswear could incorporate anything from womenswear, what would it be?
I’m 6’1 but there are occasions when I’m standing next to leggy models wearing 6 inch heels and I suddenly feel very small. In those instances, I say bring back the heel in menswear…it was men who first wore heels after all.
What clothing item would you love to see make a comeback?
I think we’re seeing most of the items I love come back, namely men embracing a return to classic tailoring.
What should a man never leave the home without?
Aftershave. It’s important to smell good.
