Forget everything you know about denim because it’s time to rip up the rule book and get creative.

At the SS15 catwalk shows designers experimented with new and inventive ways to wear denim. We’re talking patchwork, creative embellishments, modern silhouettes, as well as a flashback to the 70s with the return of the flare.

However you decide to wear the fabric this season, indulge your denim desires with our round up of how to wear our favourite fabric now.

The Denim Jacket

Hooray! The denim jacket is back so dig yours out from the back of your wardrobe or invest in one of the latest styles to hit the shop floor. Look to the queen of off-duty style, Miranda Kerr, and pair with a feminine high waisted skirt and crisp white shirt. Don’t forget about the all-important final touches including the fedora hat, animal print bag and quirky phone cover, finishing with a slick of red lipstick.

The Denim Dress

Super chic and oh-so-easy, the denim dress is the answer to all our “I don’t know what to wear” woes. For evening take inspiration from Alexa Chung by dressing up the look with patterned tights and ankle boots, and for daytime the denim dress looks just as great with sunkissed legs and a pair of this season’s must-have gladiator sandals. The no-brainer hero piece of our spring/summer wardrobe, we’re wondering what we did before the denim dress came along. Simply slip on and go…

Double Denim

Despite previously being seen as a fashion faux pas (the cringe-worthy image of Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears decked out in matching double denim immediately springs to mind), this matchy matchy look is now the height of cool. The trick to nailing this trend? Mix and match different shades of blue for the perfect pairing à la Olivia Palermo. For even more style points, incorporate a button-up denim skirt – the ultimate must-have on any fashionista’s shopping list.

The Flares

We’ve told you once and we’ll tell you again – the jean shape to be seen in this season is flares as fashion throws back to the seventies. Universally flattering, wear yours with wedges or platform heels to instantly elongate your limbs. Make like Jessica Alba and finish with a fringed bag you’re sure to use again and again.
