As a new exhibition entitled Women, Fashion, Power opens at the Design Museum in London, we take a look at some of our modern-day workwear icons and show you how to get their chic 9-5 look.

Exploring the concept of female power dressing, the new retrospective looks at how women from Princess Diana to Naomi Campbell have used fashion as a tool of self-expression and empowerment. It includes outfits from 25 high-profile women, and illustrates how power dressing has evolved through time.

To celebrate the opening we round-up  some of our favourite power dressing ladies of today to inspire our workwear wardrobes from Victoria Beckham to Miranda Kerr.

Despite her questionable fashion choices while a member of the Spice Girls, Victoria Beckham has emerged as both a hugely successful fashion designer and style icon, even gracing the cover of Vogue. Channelling the contemporary, clean cut silhouettes of her own collection, we can’t get enough of her signature style, characterised by simple, flattering shapes in luxe fabrics. Think tailored culottes, structured blazers, sophisticated pencil skirts and precision cut dresses in mostly neutral shades with artful blocks of colour.

Ever since she was thrust into the limelight due to her (slightly) famous other half, George Clooney, we’ve been captivated with Amal Alamuddin’s impeccable style. Mostly sticking to simple colours, she’s a fan of elegant shift dresses and smart yet chic co-ordinated skirt suits polished to perfection with a classic leather bag and statement stilettos or pointed flats. However, she isn’t afraid to have fun with her fashion choices and occasionally experiments with a bold colour or print to show off her individuality and style prowess. Yet to make a fashion faux pas, this human rights lawyer has proved she’s got beauty and brains.

When it comes to stylish outfits, Miranda Kerr never seems to put a fashion foot wrong. Whether she’s on the red carpet or rushing from show to show, she always manages to look impeccably turned out. However, despite what you may believe, her workwear style is actually surprisingly easy to acheive. The trick is, it seems, to tuck an elegant blouse into a pair of tailored trousers and complete the look with skyscraper stilettos, an oversized tote bag and big statement sunglasses. Easy peasy!
