Fast forward to AW10: Press show highlights
BY STYLE EDITOR, ON 16 JUN 2010 09:34 AUTUMN/WINTERCOMMENTS
Last month was our Autumn/Winter press show where Debenhams gets to unveil all the fabulous fashion and home must-haves that we’ll be selling next season.
While I was there taking in all the beautiful things, I spotted a few of our stylish Debs staff sporting some favourite brands and just had to get snapping.
As much as I hate to wish away summer, it will be over before you know it and then we’ll all have to think about transitional dressing for those in-between months. My top picks that I’ll be looking out for in September include:
The Cape: Perfect for keeping cosy and wearing over lighter knits
The Coatigan: A cross between a coat and a cardigan – these were about last season but we’ll definitely all be wearing them this time round
The Shacket: Half shirt, half jacket – an essential menswear piece next season
The Cardigown: A hybrid of a cardigan and dressing gown (one for cosy evenings in front of the TV I reckon)
GMTV’s Mark Heyes and Michelle Mone .
We also invited some bloggers along to take a sneak peek at next season’s key pieces and they were quick to report on their favourite items on their own blogs…
Gem Fatale thought that Henry Holland’s designs ‘totally stole the show’, describing his H! collection as ‘Rihanna-goes-girl-scout’ and ‘countryside cool’. The fabulous Fiona of Save our Shoes got snap-happy with a pair of Betty Jackson.Black statement boots (we want them too!). Oh and Miggy has been obsessing over shoes too sporting some fab Rocha.John Rocha wedge heels over on her blog, Miggy Likes the Internet. If you ask us, these girls have amazing taste!
John Rocha with his A/W collection for Debenhams
If there was one thing the bloggers agreed on though it was the H! by Henry Holland cape which I’ll be buying myself as soon as it hits stores. The press were in love with the Rocha.John Rocha cape, much more over-sized and a perfect example of the country classic trend which we are seeing come through for AW10. Team it with wool and tweed for a show-stopping Lady-of-the-Manor look.
Another item to prepare yourself for is the tube dress. More on that soon on the blog, but all I can say is I’m gonna be stocking up on some shapewear or invisible knickers to get the look right. Another hit trend is the aviator look with shearling, borg linings and flying jackets, a trend that Burberry championed on the catwalks back in February.
We’ll also be looking out for minimalist key pieces (a la Celine) and the oh-so ladylike look (think Marc Jacobs) featuring pussy-bow blouses, over the knee skirts, stockings and it bags. Phew! There’s plenty more to report too but I fear I’ll get you all excited before you can actually buy any of it!
Lisa Stickley and Ben strike a pose with their new collections
And I mustn’t forget the home collections. I got the chance to interview the beautiful Lisa Stickley, a brand new Designer at Debenhams for home in AW10 and there are some striking new styles from Ben de Lisi and J by Jasper Conran to watch out for too.
I can’t wait to tell you all about the new designer collections as they arrive, and you’ll find all the info on the blog so make sure you’re following us via the RSS feed for the latest posts.
