Goodbye Fifty Shades of Grey, hello multiple hues of blue. At the 64th Emmy Awards, held on Sunday 23rd September in Los Angeles, the red carpet was transformed into a dazzling sea of blue so beautiful, it’s left us feeling anything but…
Casting aside the classic black that has become a red carpet staple in recent years, starlets such as Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum, Zooey Deschanel and Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dokery were all sparkling and shimmering in ocean hues.

From the deepest shade of midnight blue to the brightest vision of summer sky, no matter the preference for each actress, it was pretty clear that for the season ahead, blue is the colour.
At Debenhams we’re feeling blue too – in the fashion sense of the word – with occasionwear favourites Pearce II Fionda and Debut, not-to-mention Designers at Debenhams’ own Ben de Lisi and Jenny Packham, each embracing the colour in their current collections.

At the Emmy’s turquoise was also on display – merging with the paparazzi flashbulbs and array of blue dresses to create a scene reminiscent of the ocean. If the lighter hued dresses were sending you green with envy, take a look at our short and sweet styles from Star by Julien Macdonald.

There’s no need to wait for a full-on glamour occasion, for blue is the hue in a number of shorter styles. Red Herring has some gorgeous options, while Butterfly by Matthew Williamson shows us how to ‘do’ deco – very Nicole Kidman with her Emmy’s red carpet take on blue embellishment.
We can’t help thinking that style this good, only comes along once in a blue moon.
