Fisherman Fashion: unlikely style icons out at sea

Something fishy is happening in the world of men’s fashion. Footballers, actors and musicians have long held a monopoly on the male style icon market but Misters Beckham, Clooney and Rascal should be looking over their shoulder because there’s a new fashion influencer in town…THE FISHERMAN.
Fishermen have been in named as the driving force behind a new trend for duffle coats, cream cable knit jumpers, chunky woollen socks, stripy t-shirts, waterproof trousers and rugged boots. And it doesn’t take too much trawling (sorry) to see where this influence is coming from.
TV programmes like Deadliest Catch, Extreme Fishing with Robson Green and repeats of the classic series Trawlermen have made fishing cool again and have transformed the image of clothes traditionally associated with seafaring pursuits.
Inspired by the likes of Paul Weller, David Beckham and Noel Gallagher, who have all sported the look, it seems British men are falling hook, line and sinker for the look.
So this season it’s all about hardwearing and stylish fashion that will see you through the winter weather and stormy economic climate. What do you think of this trend? Will you become a fisherman’s friend? Does your husband look dishy in fishy? Let us know below.
