September 2012 sees the eagerly anticipated return of ITV’s Downton Abbey, the much-loved, highly successful drama series famed for its complex relationships, upstairs/downstairs aristocratic divide and dazzlingly decadent costumes…

One of the nation’s favourite shows, as the nation’s favourite department store we’re happily embracing Downton’s return with some dazzlingly decadent fashions of our own. Do you ever find yourself gazing wistfully at the TV, wishing you could borrow Mary Crawley’s wardrobe? We do – along with her fiancé Matthew.

Last we saw of the Crawleys, they were celebrating Christmas in 1919. On the grapevine we’ve heard that season three is set to a backdrop of the glamorous roaring twenties which, as luck would have it, just happens to be an upcoming trend for autumn/winter in 2012/13.

So far, so twenties, with collections in store, and online, staying true to our historic vision of embellished dresses and sequins galore with frills – and fashion thrills.

True, thinking of the twenties usually conjures up images of flapper girl fashion with dropped waist dresses but, a cowl neck design here, a sparkle of sequins there and the bygone twenties are brought right into the modern day era – and your wardrobe to boot.

If you prefer short and sweet to long and luscious – don’t fret, the flapper girl style is still strong for the season ahead. Our Debenhams at Debenhams collections offer various dresses reminiscent of that which is to be depicted in the upcoming decade at Downton.

Why wait to be inspired? Downton Abbey inspired styles are available at Debenhams today and hey, who knows, maybe we’ll all attract our own Matthew Crawley before the season three debut. After all, when it came to the decadence of the roaring twenties, a girl was always encouraged to dream…
