Nothing gives me that warm and fuzzy feeling of home more than a cup of tea in my favourite chair and a new scatter cushion – yes, I admit that’s a bit sad but what can I say?! I’m a home girl at heart.
It used to be a new pair of shoes or a designer bag that got me dreaming of payday but these days it’s just as likely to be new bed linen!
Maybe I should be hanging my head in embarrassment but apparently I am not alone. The latest consumer research shows that we are now spending significantly more on furniture and furnishings than we have previously.
Well I can’t speak for everyone or claim to be an expert on social trends but I for one have my reasons. First up, this recession is no fun at all! It’s not just financially tough but it’s also rather depressing. Every penny counts now and if I can’t afford that holiday then I’m going to spend a little more on the house and make staying at home more appealing.
Secondly, I love to entertain (apparently another, much more cheery side-effect of the recession). The cooking part is work in progress but I have a lovely looking dining table and I’m on first name terms with my local Indian takeaway. This has proved particularly useful when my attempts at Masterchef style cuisine go awry.
I’ve long been a fan of the slow cooker and its ‘oh just throw it all in’ versatility so I’m always on the look out for the next kitchen gadget or home accessory that will allow me to impress friends and family whilst clearing up after the children, tidying the house and squeezing in a job.
So what to do when, for most, money is more precious than ever and your home needs to be your holiday and your night out as well? Two words: Debenhams SALE.
Bargain, after bargain, after bargain and always great quality and a huge selection.
The best bits:
Ok, so we might be a tiny bit biased but honestly it’s hard to choose favourites from our Home & Furniture Sale. I know what’s top of my shopping list this pay day though…
My fetish for new bedding is fuelled with the extensive sale bed linen and duvets range, I can at least pretend to be the new Nigella with the great sale cookware collection and nothing says ‘actually, my garden is my holiday terrace’ more than St. Ives Garden Furniture!
Now for the scatter cushions…
