Sandwiched somewhere between the neon brights and sorbet pastels of SS12 is a trend enjoying yet another redesign and holding its own against the other new season heavyweights – Monochrome is back and it has never been so black and white!

Perhaps in response to the more colourful trends of 2012, head to toe stark whites and classic blacks have become a stylish alternative and a secure fashion sanctuary for those daunted by the prospect of working a skinny pastel jean or neon pencil skirt.
Originally seen on SS12 catwalks from the likes of Balmain and David Koma then naturally conveyed on the red carpet at last month’s Oscars with Rooney Mara choosing white, Angelina Jolie and that (now infamous) black dress and Sandra Bullock in monochrome meets metallic, we were reminded that Monochrome can be dramatic and sophisticated or smart and reserved.
Monochrome is chic, stylish and super sexy and what’s more it’s so easy to wear that regardless of age or size, you can make this look your own.
Monochrome is almost impossible to get wrong but the trick to getting it very right this season is to strip it back and keep it simple. Opt for single shade accessories , bags and shoes with monochrome clothing and vice-versa and keep jewellery pared-down and elegant. Monochrome makes the model canvas for metallic highlights so it’s a great opportunity to introduce a second SS12 trend in one fab look.

This is not a back-lash to Monochrome’s SS12 contemporaries, more of a palette cleanser. Ensure the look respects the fresh, after-dinner mint effect that it was intended for and keep it clean and crisp.
We boast a vast assortment of black and white pieces across women’s wear this season so choose your category and filter by black and white to view our extensive collection.
