My Fair Lady: Winning Style

The warmer weather is finally making an appearance, just in time for us to be ready, get set and go when it comes to dressing up for the annual racing events on the summer social calendar.
A long standing summer favourite, a British horse-racing event is a time to come over all My Fair Lady-esque. Hey, if it’s good enough for Audrey Hepburn, it’s good enough for us.
From short and sweet to long and lovely, racing events such as Ascot and Goodwood (beginning 26th and 30th June, respectively) call for elegant glamour in all its glory – it’s all very Audrey.
Dresses such as this summery v-neck from Roksanda Ilincic/EDITION, the fabulously fitted and flared orange number from Betty Jackson.Black and the soft creamy chiffon embellished beauty from No. 1 by Jenny Packham all ooze style and sophistication, the winning ticket for a day at the races.
When it comes to making maximum impact, it’s a good idea to bear in mind that this summer – the maxi dress is big news, in every sense. We’ve a range of options to see you stand out from the crowd – our favourites are the regal purple maxi from Debut, ideal for a drink or two when you work your way into the Royal Box (a girl can dream), or the turquoise shimmering chiffon style, also Debut. For a full on ‘look at me’ fashion statement (the races are no place for a fashion wallflower) then we suggest you plump for the patterned maxi from Jonathan Saunders/EDITION.
For racing, ‘My Fair Lady’ inspired, chic, a hat is a prerequisite. From brands you’ll already know and love, such as Coast and Phase Eight and (where you will find the cream, praline and mint fascinators – pictured above), to our recently launched Top Hat range from milliner Stephen Jones for Designers at Debenhams.
A sexy pair of high heels (we love the above pair from Head over Heels for Dune) and a sleek and sexy clutch, such as the blue design from Debut and bejewelled cream number from Call It Spring, make for perfect accessories to take to the races. Here’s a top tip though – make sure you opt for a clutch that is large enough to contain all your winnings.
After all, with style this incredible, you can’t help but be a racing success.
