New season trend alert: Grown Up Glamour
BY LIZZIE, WOMENSWEAR EDITOR ON 30 AUG 2012 13:14 TRENDSCOMMENTS
This autumn/winter season it’s all about grown-up glamour. Sleek silhouettes, delicate embellishments and classic shades make up this trend – perfect for demure evening style.
Stylish for day, sexy at night, this trend can work anywhere, for any occasion. If it’s the office you’re headed to, then a tailored pair of trousers – think deep tan or navy blue colours for a sophisticated look with a difference – from Coast is a style we’re currently loving. Team with a black or white top and classic jewellery to complete the over all look.
When it comes to Grown Up Glamour, a dress says it best, so take a peek at Coast’s bright blue shift dress (the Drew) for our definition of daytime chic. Think Hitchcock leading ladies and you’re beginning to get the idea.

If you’re heading out after a day at the office, take tailored into the night with a grey double-breasted design from Collection – style it formal or funky with a piece of statement jewellery, an easy way to take or leave the embellishment associated with this trend.
For full-on evening elegance, look no further than our Designers at Debenhams. No.1 by Jenny Packham and Butterfly By Matthew Williamson have designed some gorgeous party perfect dresses, in night-time tones of purple and navy, fitting for any function – formal or fun.

Sophisticated, grown-up glamour can be demonstrated simply by what you carry in your hand – after all, the only place the season’s ‘It’ bags should be spotted, should be on the arm of a fashionable ‘It’ girl. Might we suggest bold and beautiful styles from J by Jasper Conran or a classic cream creation from Aubrey? We know that the girls in the Debenhams office (it goes without saying that we’re ‘It’ girls… right?) will certainly be indulging.
The Grown Up Gal needs to add a few inches to her height if she ever hopes to succeed in radiating one inch of glamour. The patent mock crock and classic t-bar are both designs that ooze sleek sophistication, yet don’t be afraid to play with this trend. Remember that embellishment is encouraged, provided it’s discreet, so don’t think that this has to be full-on glitter and sparkles. A small bow can be a simple, yet effective, accessory – as seen at Red Herring.
WIth gorgeous glamour a surefire style statement for the season ahead, next time someone tells us to ‘grow up’, we’ll certainly be glad to.
