New season trend alert: Military

military 2

Get ready to join the fashion army with military-inspired attire targeting our wardrobes, styling us in the must-have uniform for the autumn/winter season ahead…

Khaki greens, vintage browns, buckles and belts sum up this hot new trend. A delicate, feminine chiffon dress at Oasis is given the military makeover with khaki colouring and gold, uniform-esque buttons, while a Star by Julien Macdonald classic LBD is updated to this modern trend with flogging trim effect. Team with a brown tweed blazer, from H! by Henry Holland, for Fashion Chief chic.

Coats are reminiscent of official army uniform with large lapels, thick belts to tie at waist and, in the case of one of our favourite styles at Phase Eight, double-breasted designs with big and beautiful gold buttons. Polish to perfection and you’ll earn your fashion stripes.

For the full uniform, we recommend a pair of skinny jeans – nothing too flared or fancy should get in the way of this fashion war. Given that Red Herring do a gorgeous khaki colour, the battle about which pair to purchase is clearly one that is already won.

A good army is always well equipped, so be sure to stock up on accessories this season with over-sized golden cuffs and large bejewelled rings available to help you make your mark. Indeed, the one rule for this trend appears to be ‘forget camouflage’ – on the contrary, it’s all about marching to the front and standing out from the crowd.  Khaki-coloured earrings are even available in dainty drop form – perfect for delicate girls who prefer to stay on the home front.

Finally, make sure you have this trend in the bag by carrying one of many gorgeous designs that complement the look. H! by Henry Holland offers a couple of gorgeous satchels in green or vintage brown, yet our favourite from the quirky designer has to be the multi-toned cross-body, buckle-clasp beauty.

We never thought we’d see the day but, looking at the military inspired pieces available at Debenhams, joining the army suddenly doesn’t seem like such a bad idea…
