The Rise Of The Next Generation Of Supermodels

The stunning best friend duo, referred to as their fans and themselves as ‘Kengi’ appear to be completely taking over the fashion world. Not only are the two almost-related (through ex – step parents) but they are also flying their way through many international Vogue covers, leading campaigns alone (Kendall for Calvin Klein, Estée Lauder and Fendi – Gigi for Maybelline, Tom Ford and Versace), and runways together as two of the most sought after models in the world right now. Both just 20 years old and both from famously wealthy families (The Kardashian’s for Kendall and Yolanda Foster from Real Housewives of Beverley Hills for Gigi); they both have a huge Instagram fan base with nearly 50 million followers between them. The pair received their wings for the first time last month after both being cast for the 2015 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, as well as participating in several runway shows together during the September 2015 fashion weeks.

Winner of the most memeorable red carpet looks: Rihanna

Starting back in February, Rihanna arrived to the 57th annual Grammy Awards in a dress by Giambatista Valli before slipping into a sophisticated black suit for a performance alongside Paul McCartney and Kanye West. Rihanna again opted for the androgynous look when she wore a tuxedo suit by Giorgio Armani in gold at the 2015 BET Awards when introducing her new music video. Then swapping her sartorial style for optimum Hollywood glamour at the Daily Front Row Fashion in Los Angeles Awards, RiRi wore a sequin Moschino coat with a black fur collar. Last but not least, the dress that paused the fashion world; attending the Met Gala, Rihanna wore a dress by Guo Pei that was handmade single-handedly by one Chinese woman. We’ve got some serious wardrobe envy…

The Matter of Make-Up: Out With The Contour And In With The Strobing

Say hello to the make-up highlighting technique that’s kicking out the contour from beauty bags. Kim Kardashian introduced the contour to us earlier this year but of course not everyone has a full time glam squad to help them! The endless shading and blending is far too much hassle for the average everyday make-up routine so here’s as simpler solution. Strategically highlighting your face will create a fresh, dewy look with a natural glow.

The Exhibition That Rocked The Fashion World: Alexander McQueen’s Savage Beauty

A retrospective of the work of fashion designer Alexander McQueen was the most popular show ever staged at the Victoria and Albert museum with more than 480,000 tickets being sold for Savage Beauty. A theatrical, fantasy and eerie tour into the great mind of Alexander McQueen was delivered on a £3m budget which is more than this museum has ever spent on a show before. The vast demand for the show meant opening times had almost a 24 hour availability, closing at 5.30am before the museum reopened at 8am. The show featured McQueen’s creations starting from his days as a degree show sensation straight through to being a globally worshipped designer and brand.

Taking over the World – Taylor Swift Style

We should have guessed 2015 was going to be the year for Taylor Swift given she entered it during a confetti-filled performance in NYC’s Times Square. The leading lady and princess of the pop world was recently named as the youngest woman ever to make it onto the prestigious Forbes World’s 100 Most Powerful Women list, owning five platinum albums and seven Grammy awards with a net worth of £127m.  Not to mention her high-profile relationship with DJ and face of Emporio Armani’s underwear campaign, Calvin Harris. The singer somehow still manages to balance her time with friends, aka ‘Squad’; which just happens to include some of the most powerful and not to mention hottest females: Selena Gomez, Jaime King and Blake Lively as well as a hoard of Victoria’s Secret models: Karlie Kloss, Martha Hunt, Gigi Hadid and Lily Aldridge who have all joined her either on her ‘Bad Blood’ music video or on stage at some point during her 1989 world tour. Where do we join?!

Fashion Week’s memorable moments

Actors Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson turned Fashion Week as we know it, on its head when they stepped back into character as Derek Zoolander and Hansel to close Valentino’s AW15 show at Paris Fashion Week. Moving with the times into the age of social media; Dolce & Gabbana let real life meet the runway. During their SS16 show in Milan, the models took selfies as they strutted down the runway which was then projected onto screens in the venue. Finally, there’s been an important movement in the modelling industry of accepting new shapes and sizes on the runway which became clear during the SS16 fashion weeks in September. The stereotypical, statuesque runway model may be a thing of the past with supermodel sisters like Gigi and Bella Hadid encouraging curves on the catwalk.
