Serpentine Summer Party: Pretty in pink, and red

The verdict is out: shades of pink and red are what you wear to a garden party. A-listers attending the annual Serpentine Summer Party in London’s Hyde Park favoured the tones in dresses of all silhouettes. Arizona Muse stunned in a backless blush pink Emilio Pucci gown, Gemma Arterton turned heads in matching separates from Prabal Gurung and model and It-girl Suki Waterhouse wore a pale pink dress with a plunging neckline from Burberry Prorsum. Well, and Bradley Cooper on her arm, but that’s out of one’s control. At least killer style isn’t.
Whether you opt for pretty-in-pink or ‘lady in red’, short or long, working a dress in one of the colour spectrum’s most boldly romantic hues is perfect for those events where you really want to make a powerful yet feminine statement. Here are our top picks:
For wearing red, remember that a black shoe always goes, and accessories should be kept to a minimum. The hue is powerful enough on its own, and can easily result in a cluttered look.
For pale or bubble gum pink, black shoes also work best, but darker shades of pink can also withstand a metallic tone. Keep accessories minimalist and sophisticated (nothing too flashy or sparkly) to avoid looking juvenile.
