Staff get creative for Breast Cancer Campaign 2010

October is breast cancer awareness month and this year we will once again be supporting Breast Cancer Campaign. In fact, we’ve been supporting the charity for the past 10 years and our stores have been raising money all through the summer too. The money raised by Debenhams will go to fund 10 important projects in the UK so we need your help. Here’s what’s been happening so far…
The Step on it challenge
Teams of head office staff put on their walking shoes last Friday aiming to raise £10,000 for the charity by walking 46,000 steps. The 46,000 steps was divided between the members of each team and the figure represents the number of women diagnosed with breast cancer each year. As it happens, the fundraising total for the challenge is currently at over £11,000 so well done everyone on smashing the target!
Stores get fundraising
Each of our stores has been tasked with thinking up great ways to raise money in their local area. Barrow raised a fabulous £1000 when the store manager Nicola completed a 30 mile bike ride. The Norwich store added £2000 to the total when they completed a 26.5 mile walk (wow!). Bromley shoppers had the opportunity to cover the Debenhams store manager, Andrew, with cans of donated baked beans… they had to donate £2 a can to take part in the fun event though.
You buy, we donate
You’ll notice Debenhams stores have started selling special product for Breast Cancer Campaign and when you buy, we donate. We are again the official retailer of the wear it pink T-shirt and there are accessories and homeware products all with fabulous donations. You can pick up a specially designed wear it pink T-shirt created by our Designers at Debenhams. A selection of beauty products will contribute up to £1 for each one sold and for lingerie, 50p from every bra we sell during September and October goes towards the vital work that Breast Cancer Campaign does.
