Strictly Fabulous: Julien Macdonald hits the dance floor…

One of our very own Designers at Debenhams, Julien Macdonald, will be putting down the fabric and picking up his dance shoes (and some sparkly lycra) as he takes to the dancefloor for Strictly Come Dancing.
With series 11 of the popular prime time show set to air this coming Saturday, at Debenhams we’re already tapping our heels with impatience. We just love Julien’s sparkling designs and can’t wait to see him bring his inimitable glitz and glamour to the dancefloor.
More familiar with playing the part of resident style expert on spin-off show ‘It Takes Two’, Julien is the first fashion designed to take to the floor on the long-running show.
Going ahead against 15 other celebrities, we know Julien will do us proud, if not for the dancing, then certainly in the style stakes! Speaking of the upcoming experience Julien told the press:
“It’s an amazing opportunity – the journey, the people you will meet, the fact viewers will get to see my personality and the funny side of me. I will be able to dance, hopefully, by the end of it – and that’s why I’ve ended up doing Strictly.
“I’m loving the rhinestones and lace and the crystals. I just want more and more. I’ll probably look like a Christmas tree by the end of it.
“I’ve spent my entire life dressing a variety of different people from all different backgrounds, shapes, sizes and ages. For once in my life, somebody gets to dress me. For me, I like the fact I can have the sparkles and the crystals and the glamour that I’ve spent my life putting on other people.”
Neither can we. Keep your eyes peeled every Monday for blog reports on Julien’s progress and, if you’re lucky, a ‘Get the Look’ or two on those Strictly fabulous looks.

For a moment last night we thought we were going to lose Julien from Strictly, but he turned it around to pull off a fabulous routine (dazzling one might say, both literally and figuratively) winning over the judging panel with a tantalising tango. Saved in the Dance Off over golfing legend Tony Jacklin, Julien lives to dance another day – wearing an abundance of crystals, we can pretty much predict.
To most of us, dancing on the tables is a figure of speech, but not our Julien. The routine began with the pair perched on luxurious thrones (which looked fit for the Royal Family) before gracefully stepping up onto the gold, sparkly table. Dancing the sexy tango with Janette in his arms, we saw a serious side to Julien we’re not quite used to (he’s always smiling away with us) as he smouldered on the dancefloor to Lady Gaga’s ‘Applause’. We were certainly clapping away at home.
Julien’s matador-inspired costume was embellished to perfection, and we just hope he stays in for as long as possible so we can admire his sparkling outfits, signature moves and his larger than life smile – we love how excited he gets when chatting to the judges!
Help us to keep Julien in by voting for him next week. Who knows, if he wins, we might just see some Strictly–inspired outfits in his next collection…

Today we finally got to see Julien take to the dancefloor, sparkling onto our TV screens wearing a top adorned with 25,000 crystals. Well, we didn’t really expect anything less.
And did the dancing dazzle too? It depends which way you look at it really for, despite comments such as “More Women’s Weekly than Vogue” (Len) and “Hideously flat footwork” (Craig – who else?) the overall score for Julien was 20 – not bad for a first attempt.
Flat footwork aside, Julien’s grin stole the show – no one was in any doubt as to how much fun our boy was having – even Craig couldn’t help but laugh as Julien’s excitement over those aforementioned 25,000 crystals.
This week saw Julien attempt the Cha Cha, to the sound of Madonna’s ‘Vogue’ of course. We loved it – it there’s one thing Julien knows what to do, aside from designing, is strut down a catwalk. With one more performance before the first public vote, we can’t wait to see how Julien tackles that flat footwork next week.
One thing’s for sure, no one could accuse his smile of being flat, with enough glitz and glamour in his megawatt grin to match all the sparkle of those 25,000 crystals. We can’t wait for his dancing skills to match his enjoyment – with 20 at first attempt, we say that day can’t be far off…
And then we’ll all have something to smile about!

Our very own Designer at Debenhams, Julien Macdonald has taken to the dancefloor, shining bright like a star with diamantes and crystals galore.
Although we do love the dancing, we’re even more excited to see what outfits the stylists will choose for Julien each week. He says he wants to learn to dance and wear the crystals – the latter we’re sure he’ll do with abundance. Hopefully he’ll pick up the steps pretty quickly but, if not, he can always blind the judges with sparkle…
Despite his fashion background, Julien won’t have any input into the outfits he wears on the show, yet this hasn’t stopped him from offering fashion advice to the other celebrities backstage on how they can tweak their outfits by taking the hem up a little, or shortening their sleeves. We wish he could come around to our house on Saturday nights and give us a few tips too…
Last Saturday night we saw Julien step out in a fabulous black lace number. A strong sartorial start, even if the designer doesn’t win the dancing trophy – we think he’ll certainly win the prize for best dressed.
