Style Q&A – H! By Henry Holland’s Sofie Greatorex
BY STYLE EDITOR, ON 7 AUG 2012 09:21 STYLE Q&ACOMMENTS
Following on from last month’s quick Q&A with Lydia Newman, Assistant Buyer from the Red Herring team, we’re shifting our fashion focus onto Sofie Greatorex from the H! by Henry Holland collection. We find out what to pop on our wish list for AW12, upcoming fashion awards and what it’s like working with Henry Holland himself…
When did you realize you wanted to work in the fashion industry? Tell us a bit about your background.
Since college really. I wasn’t much of an academic at school but I loved and excelled in more creative subjects, so after my GCSEs I went onto college to do a GNVQ in Art and Design, specializing in textile design. Fashion design was a just a natural development from that.
How did you get started?
After college I applied to various universities and was accepted at the Surrey Institute Of Art And Design on their BA Hons degree course in Fashion. After graduation I managed to get a valuable work placement at UK high street brand Oasis, which lead to a full time position there. It’s really hard to get a job after graduation so work experience is the best way to get your foot in the industry door.
How would you define the Henry Holland brand?
Youthful, Casual Cool, Cute & Fun.
What is your personal favourite piece from H! By Henry Holland?
It’s hard to identify one piece – but one thing I can wait to get my hands on is our AW12 lux fur boyfriend coat that will hit stores this September.
What is it like working with Henry Holland, the man himself?
He’s great… very funny, knowledgeable and inspiring to work with.
Who would you pick out as the ultimate H! By Henry Holland style icon?
We love Little Mix, they definitely epitomise the H! brand and our target customer.
What are you working on these days?
We’re currently working on the H! spring Summer 2013 collection.
What should we pop on our wishlist from the current season collection?
Heritage fabrications, checks and textured tweeds are big trends for AW12 and feature throughout our AW12 collection. Must have pieces would be… the Henry Hacking jacket, in store now, the tweed and PU mix biker jacket and the PU sleeve check shift dress, both in store next month.
Can you give us any sneaky info about what will be happening next with Henry Holland?
H! By Henry Holland has been put forward for the ‘Best Young Fashion Brand’ award at the Drapers Record Awards ceremony, is taking place this November, so stay tuned to find out how we do. Fingers crossed!
