The wait is over, the feather boa is out of storage and the classic boater hat is ready to go…ladies and gentleman The Great Gatsby is here.
Baz Luhrmann’s interpretation of the Robert Redford 70s classic finally hits UK cinemas and with all the buzz surrounding its release you can be forgiven for being a little tired by it all.
But, you can guarantee the conversation in the pub or at work will involve the film-of-the-summer so let’s get you prepared…
Let’s begin with this smart Jasper Conran designer red mini gingham checked blazer. If you prefer to stand out – and why wouldn’t you? – then the J Jeans by Jasper Conran designer navy narrow striped blazer and the gorgeous J Jeans by Jasper Conran designer maroon striped blazer might be the ones for you.
A fine shirt and trousers should also be top of your agenda. The shirt, in a perfect world, should complement the overall look but also stand out in its own right.
A tricky balancing act, but not impossible.
Try this Osborne blue bold striped shirt to get you started. Or maybe a designer pink fine stripe shirt from Jeff Banks? Keeping the shirt bold and the colour fresh is a top tip – this Stvdio Jeff Banks violet wide satin tailored fit formal shirt certainly hits the spot.
Trousers can be treacherous but sticking with chinos means you can customise your look even further. You can roll them up in an instant and redress the balance just as quickly.
Now we need to give your shirt that extra ‘wow’ factor. How you ask? Easy. With a well-chosen bow tie or perfectly picked pair of braces.
Don’t believe us? Try this Black Tie purple geometric bow tie or maybe this plain cherry bow tie from Piscador.
Now, let’s get your accessories in order. Whether you like it or not Mister, you’re going to wear a hat and wear it with style.
Try this Red Herring natural striped trimmed straw trilby hat, not too gaudy and bang on trend – plus you can always take it off, right?
And the natural straw boater hat by Osborne looks great too. Just remember to tip it every time a woman walks past – and she will.
Your blazer will require a pocket square/handkerchief, so make sure you’re set with this Osborne set of turquoise and white handkerchiefs and a simple, classic belt is a must. We’d recommend this Red Herring brown plaited leather belt
No outfit is complete without sterling footwear. To that end we’ve picked out three outstanding examples for you to choose from.
First up is this stunning pair of Marta Jonsson white leather brogues. Enough said.
But don’t stop there, these KG Kurt Geiger ‘Killington’ red leather brogues are a great pair to step out in and, let’s face it, look amazing.
And these designer black leather brogue shoes from Rocha. John Rocha aren’t too shabby either.
There you have it. How to do the film and buzz justice. Now get out there and look great – and if your name is Gatsby, well, you can’t go wrong.
