winter gloves

This blog post comes from the lovely Jessica Holt who works in the Debenhams Stockport store. Read on for her top glove picks…

“It’s reached that time of year again when the wind’s picked up, the rain is pouring down and the thought of going outside some mornings is just unbearable. To keep away the winter blues, I’ve come up with a pick of my favourite winter hand warmers for all occasions. At Debenhams we don’t think of gloves and just see fuzzy hand warmers, oh no,  we see a whole new accessorising opportunity!

Fair Isle

Gloves for everyday

Firstly let’s take a look at the everyday glove. They should be thick, knitted and easy to wear. Perfect for trips out to the park, these dark grey Fair Isle knit mittens will keep your fingers nice and snug and the cute print keeps them colourful and fun. I’ve paired these great gloves with this dark grey coat from Red Herring for a young, fresh and practical look.

Longline gloves

Next on the list of glove must-haves is the long pair! With cropped sleeve coats a big hit for AW11 you need to start thinking how to style up those arms so they stay warm and also complement your coat beautifully.  If your coat is high in detail like this camel duffle coat from Casual Collection then pick a simple pair of long gloves that won’t take away from the coat. These natural longline knitted gloves from Betty Jackson.Black are ideal. With detailing on the arms they will add to the quirky capes sleeves and if you decide to pop your hands in the coat’s side pockets just a hint of detail will poke out.

Faux fur glovesFaux fur gloves

Now every girl needs a touch a faux fur in her wardrobe and if you aren’t ready to sport the full faux fur coat this year then a pair of gloves with a faux fur trim is exactly what you need. I love these natural knitted mittens from Rocha.John Rocha which match perfectly with the light grey shawl from Collection. With Bonfire Night approaching you need to get your layers ready and this shawl can easily be thrown over any outfit for added warmth.

Gloves for gadgetsGloves for gadgets

A relatively new addition to the world of gloves is the gadget-lover’s glove. Yes, with the rise of Smart phones and tablets with touch screens over recent years, Isotoner have a fab range of gadget-friendly gloves. These black knot detail leather gloves are chic and elegant, and of course feature sensitive fingertips so you can continue to read the Debenhams blog even when you are stood at the bus stop. For a super sleek look we’ve paired these gloves with the brown faux fur coat from Rocha.John Rocha. The mock leather belt brings the whole outfit together for a profession winning winter look.

Ladylike glovesLadylike gloves

Finally it’s the classic ladylike glove. Smart, classic and pretty these red bow leather gloves from J By Jasper Conran are ideal for slipping on before heading off to a Seasonal Party. They are available in black and brown as well but I’ve opted for this gorgeous red pair to add a bit festivity to any outfit. Continuing on with the super glam look we’ve paired these fantastic gloves with Collection’s thick faux fur winter coat. All together it’s a glamorous AW11 look!

Whichever style of gloves you are looking for this year, Debenhams has plenty on offer so head to debenhams.com and find your perfect pair of winter warmers. Oh, and don’t forget gloves for him and the gloves for the kids too!”
