Here in the office a few of us have long been fans of the BBC series Wainwright Walks (they’re great -and you can get them here) and of the books on which it is based; there’s something very relaxing about listening to and reading about walking in the country. Good for the soul we all agreed. One thing we never expected it to be good for was the high street!
But good ol’ Alfred Wainwright, famous for his Lake District walking guides and infamous for his grumpiness and bad dress sense, seems to have become the driving force for a new look on the catwalk.
Hiking is the new black it seems!
Our Director of Menswear Buying, Paul Baldwin says, “We’re calling it ‘Wainwright Chic’, men and women have fallen in love with the rugged outdoor image the hill-climbing clothing style portrays, and want to wear it everyday.”
So if you’ve been thinking about adding a touch of the great outdoors to your wardrobe, there’s no need to fight it, embrace your new found ruggedness, afterall, sometimes keeping up with all the new trends can feel like you have a mountain to climb.
