With tennis fever about to grip the nation via the world-famous Wimbledon tournament, we’re batting for white hot style here at Debenhams. After all, we’re in the office for the next two weeks – far from Murray Mount – so we’re thinking, hey, if we can’t beat ‘em, join’ em, with fashion that’s whiter than white.
With white currently a hot trend for summer, there’s luckily a wide range of gorgeous garments for us to shop. If you prefer to dress it up in bright white feminine styles, you might be in favour of the Principles by Ben de Lisi white shift dress or Mantaray broderie dress (below left to right). Unlike Ascot, Wimbledon isn’t an invitation to compete in the style stakes. All eyes should be on court, so classic, understated style is what you should be serving up.
If all white can wash you out, we suggest working the trend with another popular summer look – printed trousers. The more colourful, the better to help highlight the contrast with the white. We suggest teaming the Geometric burnout top from Betty Jackson.Black (below right) with pretty jewellery, such as a long pendant, for a tiny touch of sparkle, while the Principles by Ben de Lisi broderie shell top will look good with a pair of pretty chandelier earrings (below centre). If you prefer the Butterfly by Matthew Williamson sequin vest, go easy of the accessories.
Speaking of accessories we thought we’d put together a ‘White Hot List’, inspired by Wimbledon, with a few more dress suggestions (like the LBD in winter, summer should see every girl snap up a LWD), along with a few accessory picks. From stylish handbags to a beautiful diamante watch, we’re afraid we had to include that necessary evil – an umbrella. This may be a summer tournament, but the ever-lingering sound of Cliff Richard singin’ in the rain is an everlasting reminder that it is, in fact, held in Britain.

Whether or not Cliff makes an appearance (or puts on a performance) this year remains to be seen but, with our Wimbledon wonders rounded up, there’s no excuse not to be ready – style, set and match.
