The Scottish people have spoken, and we couldn’t be happier. Along with shortbread, a good single malt and Tilda Swinton, we’re loving all things Scottish – and luckily they seem to love us too. Coincidentally, tartan is definitively this season’s must-have print.
Originally, wearing the Scottish print first became a thing after King George IV visited the Highlands and was welcomed by locals wearing checked kilts. Today, it’s been worn by many a style icon, including SJP, Jessica Alba, and naturally, University of St Andrews alum Kate Middleton. Tartan prints’ rich history elicits a sense of mystique. There are numerous kinds – from clan or family tartans, to district tartans, corporate, royal and mourning tartans. To us, there are just two kinds: precise, classic versions as well as cool contemporary takes on the style.
