Debenhams does London Fashion Week

Oh, fashion week, how we love you. You bring out the best-dressed in all of us and point the way to the trends to come. We at Debenhams get particularly excited when a fashion week rolls around as it means we get to see the latest and greatest creations from some of our favourite designers and collaborators. This time we went to see the Autumn/Winter 2019 collections of Richard Quinn, Jasper Conran and Preen by Thornton Bregazzi. They did not disappoint…

Richard Quinn: Fearless Glamour

“This is a garden which has grown up in inner-city London, a place of liberation where unafraid British glamour flourishes”

Richard Quinn is the apple of British fashion’s eye at the moment and from this season’s collection alone it’s easy to see why. On Tuesday, the South-East-London-born designer opened his ‘Secret Garden, that everyone’s invited to’ and showed forty-one stunning ‘couture-led’ pieces. The models walked among decadent flower arrangements, hanging chandeliers and confetti canons. We saw an abundance of his trademark ‘floramaniac’ botanical prints, dazzling embellished suits and oversized puffball gowns. Crafted in ‘fierce creative opposition to the times,’ it’s unapologetic, glorious fashion which absolutely refuses to be quiet. The show was accompanied by an electrifying live performance from British singer-songwriter Freya Ridings, whose song ‘Lost Without You’ reached Number Nine in the official UK charts last year.

Our latest collaboration with Richard Quinn is full of spliced prints, luxe fabrics and retro-chic shapes. In other words, eclectic-cool style that will never go out of fashion. The exclusive SS19 range drops at the start of April.

Preen by Thornton Bregazzi: Our chosen religion

“We find a new spirituality in what we make and welcome you to our place of worship, our chosen religion… Preen by Thornton Bregazzi”

If you are looking to add a little rebellion to your wardrobe, through punk PVC or see-through stand-out pieces, Preen by Thornton Bregazzi has exactly what you need. The AW19 collection is ‘inspired by the culture of dance & music and the impact it has had on us.’ The influence of movement on the designs translated to trailing, ruffled skirts, streamers and mish-mashed layering which we can’t wait to start incorporating into our wardrobes. Electric blues, fiery reds, oranges and slick blacks were the key colours featured – and sequins – no-one can do sequins quite like Preen can do sequins. Vintage florals got another uniquely-Preen wake-up and shake-up through slouchy suits and divine asymmetric dresses. The models walked to the deep bass beat of Blue Monday by eighties band New Order. Does fashion get any cooler?

The Debenhams range: Studio by Preen

This year’s Spring/Summer collection from Studio by Preen is a gorgeous explosion of contrasting florals, spliced prints and unexpected, eye-catching shapes. The range is adored by the press, influencers (and us!) because it allows you to add a splash of high fashion to your wardrobe for a much lower price. Click here to shop now.

Jasper Conran: The dress

“Proportion and order expressed with a slouch. Elegance restrained.”

The freestyle jazz that accompanied the show set the tone for Conran’s AW19 collection perfectly: effortless, organic with unexpected pops of colour and movement. This ready-to-wear collection does exactly what it promises. Flattering, stylish womenswear designed with the woman in mind. It included ‘Dresses, skirts and tunic tops always with a pocket. Skirts slit to allow a stride. A high-gloss no fuss slip-on shoe.’ (Finally!). Conran also celebrated the ‘ease and comfort of sportswear’ throughout the collection, something we all do privately, but come autumn will have the excuse to leisure-up in our everyday looks. We. Can’t. Wait.
