Sugar Rush: Pastels

A firm favourite every spring, pretty pastel hues instantly have us dreaming of the long summer days that lie ahead. From candyfloss pink to baby blue, buttermilk yellow to the softest lilac, we’re sprucing up our spring wardrobes with delicious sorbet shades that look good enough to eat.

Could it be the longest love affair in fashion history? It seems designers remain utterly besotted with the perennial pastel trend as highlighted by the SS15 catwalk shows. But as with all relationships, even fashion trends need a new lease of life every so often to keep the flame burning bright. From feathery fabulousness at Fendi to delicate ruffles at Topshop Unique, this season designers kept the romance alive by experimenting with modern shapes and exciting tactile textures.

PASTELS TREND

We show you how to incorporate candy colours into your wardrobes, from AM to PM.

From Day…

Spotted left, right and centre at the spring-summer 2015 fashion weeks, pastels showed no sign of shying away. A pastel coat was the pièce de résistance with everyone who was anyone choosing this as the cover-up to covet. The perfect way to sweeten up your outfit, a pastel coat is the perfect piece to invest in now, brightening up your cold weather wardrobe and taking you straight into spring and beyond. If you’re looking for something not quite so bold, tap into the trend with a pastel coloured accessory such as a statement necklace, instantly adding a fashion-forward finish to any look.

To Night…

Pastels are just as easy to work into your evening attire. Whether it’s your prom, a wedding or a black tie event you’re attending, look to Kate Middleton and add a ray of sunshine to proceedings with a floor-sweeping dress in an icy shade. Alternately, add a lick of colour to your ensemble with an ice cream coloured clutch.
