Red Carpet Style: BAFTAs vs Grammys

It was a huge night for A-listers both sides of the Atlantic last night as the Grammy Awards and the BAFTAs took place simultaneously in Los Angeles and London.

While it was a great night for Brits in terms of awards – Eddie Redmayne won the BAFTA Award for Best Actor while Sam Smith walked away with a massive four Grammy Awards – it was the red carpet fashion we couldn’t wait to see.  While the Brits opted for a demure understated aesthetic, across the pond it was a completely different story with the Americans opting for far raunchier styles, grabbing our attention with plunging necklines and daring cut-outs. Here we round up the winners in the style stakes from both awards.

BAFTA Awards

In London film’s biggest names descended on the red carpet dressed in their finest, braving the bitterly cold weather. Quite the opposite to the gowns spotted at the Grammys, attendees adhered to a more formal dress code, mostly playing it safe in enduringly stylish black or white. A regular on the red carpet, Amy Adams modeled another winning ensemble, contrasting beautifully with the red carpet in an icy white Lanvin dress complete with statement belt, while Best Actress winner Julianne Moore sizzled in a plunging scarlet red Tom Ford number. Despite losing out on an award, Keira Knightley was a lesson in chic maternity dressing, blooming in Giambattista Valli florals.

Grammy Awards

Across the pond at the biggest night in the music world, the stars certainly went big in the glamour stakes – the hemlines got higher, the dresses got sparklier and the colours got bolder. There’s no denying things were a little more risqué with Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga, Nicky Minaj and Beyonce all vying for attention with impossible-to-ignore plunging necklines. Embellishment was key with Katy Perry and Kim Kardashian both wowing in head-to-toe sparkle, while Taylor Swift showed off her long legs in a vibrant Elie Saab dress with a subtle metallic finish. Statement earrings won the award for the star’s accessory of choice with Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry completing their evening ensembles with eye-catching earrings.

They might be love rivals but one thing Taylor Swift and Katy Perry can agree on is the power of statement earrings.

Beauty Tips: Whether it’s the BAFTAS or the Grammy’s one thing you’ll notice is that each of these leading ladies has an enviable flawless complexion. The trick is to focus on prepping and priming the skin with a few must-have products before applying make up. By using powerful serums, primers and moisturisers, skin will look more even, luminous and radiant. Once your skin is ready for seamless make up application you can recreate glamorous gold and blue lids like Kim Kardashian and Taylor Swift or a bold lip like Julianne Moore.
