Forget the awards, when it comes to the Golden Globes, it’s the glamorous red carpet dresses we look forward to most. From show-stopping embellishments to vibrant pops of colour, Hollywood’s finest did not disappoint when it came to their red carpet style and beauty looks. Here we round up the top red carpet trends from this year’s awards.
Over the Top
On this year’s red carpet, more was most definitely more as the stars pulled out all the stops. Lupita Nyong’o swiftly reclaimed her crown as queen of red carpet style in a vibrant Giambattista Valli gown, while Julianne Moore got us all in a flutter over her feathery number. Alison Williams, meanwhile, continued her run of stunning red carpet looks in a sparkling tiered Armani Prive dress in a head-turning ruby red hue.

Dresses like these are a statement piece so don’t pile on the make up so it detracts from the dress. For Lupita her perfect pout did all the talking, apply Lancome’s Rouge in Love Lipstick in 361 and Lip Lover in 339 (exclusive to Debenhams) for a shiny finish. Make the most of your eyes like Julianne and Allison. Allison’s brows look incredible, use Bobbi Brown’s Brow Kit to clearly define them and apply Estee Lauder’s Doublewear Stay in Place Eye Pencil on the waterline to accentuate the shape of your eyes and to make them stand out.

Sunny Delight
The colour to be seen in at this year’s Golden Globes was yellow as Naomi Watts, Lesley Mann and Jenna Dewan-Tatum brought a touch of sunshine to the red carpet.

Yellow can be one of the hardest colours to wear but Naomi, Ruth and Leslie all pulled this vibrant hue with style and confidence. If you’re wearing a bright yellow like Naomi and Leslie Mann then complete the look with Estee Lauder’s Pure Color Envy Lipstick in Potent that oozes glamour. If your dress is a softer shade of yellow like Jenna Tatum then opt for a subtle make up look with MAC’s Powder Blush for a pinch-perfect flush of colour to the cheeks and nude lip with just a hint of colour and lots of shine.

Timeless Chic
The new Mrs Clooney showed us how she managed to captivate the world’s most eligible bachelor in an elegant floor-sweeping Dior gown complete with her own elbow length opera gloves for a touch of classic Hollywood glamour. Camila Alves looked equally as sophisticated in a blush pink Monique Lhuilier dress with a fabulous ruffle back, while Salma Hayek looked striking in a structured McQueen ballgown.

All three ladies impressed us with their glossy, soft curl tresses. Look after your hair with Aveda Be Curly Shampoo and if you’re hair is straight use Curl Secret by Babyliss for instant curling action. For make up focus on your skincare to get an even flawless base and a beautiful radiant complexion. Recommendations include Super Restorative serum by Clarins, Givenchy’s Rich Luminescene Moistursing Cream and Prime Time primer by bareMinerals. Once your skin is glowing naturally you can opt for a bold glossy lip, subtle eyeliner and defined brows like Amal, or go for a sultry, smokey eye as seen on Camila or keep it subtle and sophisticated like Salma.

High Shine
There was no shortage of shimmer – Jessica Chastain stood out in a revealing coppery number while Kerry Washington added a touch of colour to proceedings in a two-tone Mary Katrantzou gown.

Top Tip: For this look pick out a key colour like Kerry and Jessica. For instance, Kerry’s dress was a metallic pink so she wore a pink lip to complete the look. To complement Jessica’s infamous red hair, she opted for a similar shade to match her tresses. Reese wowed in metallic silver and as this is a neutral shade she was able to go strong on the eyes and lips. Recommendations include, YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick and Estee Lauder Color Vivid Shine Lipstick.

Take the Plunge
Forget the ‘Angelina’ thigh-high split, this year it was all about plunging necklines as Kate Hudson, Jennifer Lopez and Sienna Miller stole the show in the most revealing gowns of the evening.

We admire these leading ladies for wearing plunging necklines – they all looked stunning. From Kate’s Instagram pics, she focused on skincare and used Elemis’ Pro-Collagen Marine Cream. An effective moisturiser with a gel-like picture that makes skin smoother, softer and radiant upon application. Jennifer wowed with her bronzed goddess look, contoured cheeks, sultry smokey eye and nude lip. Recommendations include Bobbi Brown Bronzing powder, YSL Touche Eclat, Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Kajal Liner and Bobbi Brown Smokey Eyeliner Brush.
