The Royal Wedding Dress Code: The 5 Golden Rules You Need To Know

If you’re one of the lucky 1,200 members of the public to have an invitation to Harry and Meghan’s big day or you’re just watching from the sidelines, there are some very important dress code rules to look out for. Here are the 5 golden rules that’ll have you dressed to impress for the Royal Wedding…

Rule 1: Ladies Must Wear Hats

Its traditional for all ladies at a Royal Wedding to wear a hat or large fascinator during the ceremony. Failure to wear one is seriously frowned upon and shows a lack of respect to the bride and groom. We can’t wait to check out who wears the most extravagant head-piece.

Here’s our edit of royal-worthy hats and fascinators…

Rule 2: Dresses Should Cover The Shoulders And Knees

In order for your occasion dress to get the royal seal of approval, it must adhere to the strict dress code! It must cover the shoulders and should be no shorter than knee length. Wearing all black is also a fashion faux par as this is recognised as the colour of mourning. Bright colours and pastels are a definite yes for a royal wedding (although avoid white so as not to upstage the bride)!

Rule 3: All Nail Polish Must Be Neutral

If Meghan Markle wants to sport a vibrant Spring shade for her wedding nails, she’ll have to reconsider, as it is traditional for a bride and her guests to keep their nails looking as natural as possible, meaning no brights, glitter or extravagant nail extensions for the Princess-to-be.

Rule 4: Absolutely NO Wedge Heels

Whilst The Duchess of Cambridge has often been snapped wearing stylish wedges out and about, she will never wear them in front of the Queen as it’s a well known fact that she is not a fan of wedge heels. Wedding guests should opt for a different heel or risk offending Her Majesty. For a royal wedding, it is also expected that all shoes are closed toe for such a formal occasion.
