Trend Focus: Sixties Style

It may be all about the seventies right now but the sixties are set to swing right back into the fashion focus this autumn/winter.

It didn’t really ever go out of fashion – because how could we possibly live without our versatile shift dresses and black eyeliner flick – but in AW15 we see a revamp of our favourite decade. Think micro hemlines, bold colour blocking and retro silhouettes, all with a modern spin. Beehive optional.

On the Catwalk

Reinvented and updated, the 60s theme had a cleaner, minimal feel on the AW15 runways with floral prints and psychedelic prints being replaced with boxy cuts, statement colour blocking and shorter hemlines. The designers interpreted the trend in different ways – DAKS made a nod to mod with a utility-inspired collection featuring baker boy caps and military style tailoring; Jonathan Saunders embraced the high necklines and A-line silhouettes typical of the 60s era; while Orla Kiely embraced a geek chic aesthetic with a selection of pussy bow blouses, collared dresses and prim pinafores.

How to wear it

Always a good look regardless of season, 60s styling is perfect for transitional weather. In the summertime show off your pins in shift dresses and mini skirts, before adding over the knee socks, a double-breasted pastel coat and a poloneck when the temperature cools. Here are the top ten items you need to nail the sixties trend.
