AW14 Trend: Winter Greens

Rich, dark, sophisticated – forest green is the George Clooney of colour trends. A standout hue for autumn, this season’s dark green is intense and hypnotic. Working this alluring trend in its subtle varieties – emerald, pine and British racing green – will exude elegance and ambition, yet also an earthy vibe.

For inspiration, here are three fashion-forward ways to style this shade:

Green-2-500pxBOOKISH CHARM
You only need one dark green separate to make an impact with this bold colour. We work this offbeat yet preppy look around H! by Henry Holland’s panda jumper (coming soon). Worn with a ladylike black skirt and Holland’s fabulous wedge brogues, this is perfect for a fashion-forward statement at school or a weekend day out. A black leather satchel – also a hot accessories trend of the season – completes the look.

Green-3-500pxKEEP IT GREEN
As it’s a darker shade, dark green can handle shine and embellishment without looking gaudy and over-the-top, making it perfect for autumn/winter parties. A hero piece from J by Jasper Conran’s new collection is this impeccably tailored jacquard blazer-and-trouser combo. Betty Jackson.Black’s chiffon and sequin top ups the ante, while simple yet elegant black accessories complement beautifully. Making perfect investments, these satin court shoes and shiny clutch will be pieces you’ll use all season long. Don’t forget green teardrop earrings for the perfect finishing touch. (Top, blazer, trousers coming soon.)

Green-Outfit-1-500pxLADY IN VERT
This outfit was styled with a long, office-to-drinks/dinner kind of day in mind. A sophisticated way to wear the trend, we start with this elegant fit-and-flare dress from Uttam Boutique, which comes in the perfect shade of forest green. Glamorous accessories, such as Dune’s high-heeled ankle boots and Versace Jeans’ sequined bowler bag elevate the look, keeping it sharp and modern. A dark green manicure will add that extra bit of polish (unavoidable pun) to the look.

As a rule of thumb, dark green is best worn all-over, or complemented by black, navy and burgundy. Remember, this season’s intense dark green will help you feel invincible, so do work this trend when you need a real power outfit. Clooney not included – obviously.
