What’s new at Costa Coffee

This year we are bringing a new concept to the Debenhams blog, now that we have our food editor you’ll be seeing a lot more food content creeping in and with that will come lots more baking, recipes, and delicious treats.  Each month we will dedicate a whole blog feature one of our amazing Food heroes in a post completely dedicated to them where they can tell their story share their brand image and spill secrets about new products that are launching as well as our food editor sharing their personal favourites. So starting us off with our January brand partner of the month is the well know red cup legends costa coffee.

Costa history

Founded in London by Italian brothers Sergio and Bruno Costa in 1971, Costa Coffee operates over 2,600+ coffee shops in the UK and more than 1,300+ in 31 international markets. We are the fastest growing coffee shop business in the UK and are proud to be the nation’s favourite coffee shop, having been awarded “Best Branded Coffee Shop Chain in the UK and Ireland” by Allegra Strategies for eight years running (2010-2017).

At Costa Coffee, making a positive contribution to the communities is extremely important, both here in the UK and across the world. That’s why they established The Costa Foundation, a registered charity created to improve the lives of children in coffee growing communities by helping them access a safe, quality education. To date, the Costa Foundation has funded over 80 school projects and changed the lives of more than 75,000 children.

Fresh new menu

Costa are showing their support for those doing veganaury this year by launching two new milk alternatives, almond drink and semi-skimmed lactofree milk, alongside the coconut milk they launched last year. They are providing their dairy-free customers with a whole new variety of different taste sensations, and really helping to spread the word that milk alternatives are just as good if not better. They have also revamped their classic vanilla latte to be enjoyed three ways- vanilla almond latte, vanilla coconut latte and vanilla lactofree latte. This smooth winter warmer is packed full of flavour and all three variants of the Vanilla Latte will be available from Thursday 3rd January.

Christmas may be a distant memory, but there’s still plenty to be excited about as Costa is delighting customers with a delicious range of sweet treats. They are staying true to their roots with the Coffee, Walnut & Pecan Cake – three layers of soft coffee sponge with an irresistible coffee infused icing and topped with walnuts and pecans.

Also new and available until April is an Easter-themed treat that will have kids and adults alike jumping for joy. The Hopping Bunny Gingerbread is a lightly spiced seasonal biscuit, and at just £1.65 each, they are sure to be hopping off the shelves in no time. In more good news for sweet-toothed customers, the Orange, Pistachio & Polenta Cake is back by popular demand. Made with ground almonds and polenta, and injected with tangy orange curd, it has a wonderful balance of bitter and sweet. Also returning is the Lemon Curd Tart, which is now zestier than ever.

Another product with a new recipe for 2019 is the Veggie Breakfast Pot. This high in protein breakfast is made up of baked beans, free range scrambled eggs, roasted mushrooms and cheddar cheese, and now provides customers with one of their recommended five a day. Completing the savoury line up for January are some returning favourites including the Chicken & Bacon Toastie, Brie & Bacon Panini, Mozzarella, Tomato & Basil Panini plus the fan-favourite Mac & Cheese will all be back on shelves. Costa Coffee’s two previous breakfast meal deals will be continuing into January too, meaning customers can purchase a British Beechwood Smoked Bacon Roll or a Scrambled Egg & Mushroom Muffin for just £2 with the purchase of any medio or massimo hot drink or Flat White until 11am

Editors picks

I’m not the biggest coffee drinker and never have been, so whenever I go to costa I always opt for one of the iced drinks. My all-time favourite being the “Belgian chocolate creamy cooler” I have such a sweet tooth and I love thick creamy milkshakes so there’s nothing not to love with this drink. My favourite drink last summer was the “salted caramel crunch frostino” it tasted just like a dessert in a drink.

Again, sticking to the sweet theme, my favourite treat has got to be the caramel crisp it’s a fancy rice crispy treat and I love it, I love anything with chocolate so it’s always a winner for me. Although sweet treats are my favourite I am partial to a toastie or two and my go-to in  costa is always the classic chicken and bacon, its creamy cheesy inside is my perfect lunchtime snack

We are incredibly lucky to have 30 costa sites dotted around the country in different Debenhams stores. If you would like to try out one of their new milk alternatives or the sound of the coffee walnut and pecan cake took your fancy then follow the link here to find your closest store.
